sketchup or 3d max?
i would like to know that while making a model which software is better? sketchup or 3ds max?

What Haris Nazir said. It's not the instrument, it's the person wielding it. I think you'll find most offices use them both, so you may want to develop some skill in both and see which you prefer.

big, complicated stuff - max. simplier and less time consuming - sketchup. i love them both equally

Blender.
I use blender since 2008 year. It is free and open source. I do everything from interior to exterior & animation & postprocessing & import-export & even use like movie maker!

it depends on the work. for architectural work I'd recommend Autodesk Revit or Graphisoft Archicad. it's not just modeling, it's about the whole project, but in the end you can get better rendered images with Revit because Archicad relies a lot on Artlantis for better final images. although you could use sketch up for architectural work, I think is a lot more dificult to use with that porpuse in mind. it's a lot faster to create from zero but it does give you the control over everything.
also you could use Revit to create your projects and then send it to 3ds max to render. the same with archicad and artlantis or cinema 4d. but you can also model from scratch in 3ds max, sketch up ou cinema 4d. I use cinema 4d because I've choosen it a long time ago. it's not better, it's not worse, it's just another one, like blender or 3ds max or rhino. choose one that you like, that you think it would be easy, that can be a valuable addition to software that you already use like Autocad/Revit. usually Autodesk's products function well between them, so if you use Autocad or Revit it is easier to use 3ds max. if you use Archicad, it would be easier to use artlantis or Cinema 4D. these are just some examples, look for more info in their sites.
