What software do you use? (CAD/BIM)
Hi everyone!
As I'm sure everyone here is well aware, over the last couple of decades CAD and BIM software like AutoCAD and Revit have steadily all but taken over a lot of the fundamental areas in architectural planning.
With that in mind, I'm going to take advantage of the very international community we have here and ask a question that has come up quite often recently:
What software solution do you use predominantly at your firm, or at your school?
Or perhaps more to the point, what, if any, software is used most often as a "standard" in your country?
Here are a few of the popular ones, just off the top of my head:
Vectorworks, All Plan
The AutoCAD family, Revit
Archicad
Bently Architecture
I'm also very curious if anyone still uses an orthodox all-paper approach, and whether it's still viable these days.
Lastly, how many of you out there routinely use Sketchup for the early stages of planning?
The reason I ask is that many of us at my school here in Tokyo are a little confused as to what tools are commonly used outside of Japan. Even here teachers can't seem to agree on whether Vectorworks or AutoCAD is dominant locally.

Here at the Lincoln school of architecture, we predominately use autocad for drafting but for 3d modelling we have a selection to use from such as archicad, rhino, 3ds max, sketchup etc. I stick to autocad and max.

yea...so do we..... for plans elevations n sections we use autocad 2009.....n for modeling n animations we stick to 3dmax

In Brazil we usually use AutoCAD for plans, elevations and sections. For 3d modeling though is don't think there is one dominant, I've seen people using a lot of sketchup but I can't say it is everybody. I particulary like making paper models while still in the designing process.

Hi,
I study in North Wales UK and we predominatly use Auto CAD for plans, elevations etc.. and sketch up for 3D.
However, next year I will probably use REVIT and vector with photoshop.
I'm trying to use as many programmes as possible whilst in University for a variety knowledge of the technologies out there.

Hello,
In my studio we use Revit (Architectural, Structual & MEP) for drafting (plans, elevations, sections) and pre-modeling. For formal modeling and animation we use 3D Max. We just use AutoCAD when we need to send information. I make the final plans by hand to give as a gift to the client, when is a contest I do it and archived.

i studied in UCE&T BZU Multan.........and i am student of Building & Architectural Engineering.... we use Auto cad for plans elevations n sections ........n for modeling n animations we stick to 3dmax....n we use adobe photo shop also..........

Actually new generation softwares provide all of them in a package anymore..As a matter of fact that theese software take the place of others..

In Guatemala it's AutoCAD for drafting, for 3-D studies something simple like Sketchup or Rhino (with SU Podium for more realism), for 3-D presentations 3ds max. BIM hasnt' caught up yet.
