Architecture Linked - Architect & Architectural Social Network

A friend forwarded me this video by James Kunstler and I think he raises some interesting points. I must admit that he's a bit eccentric, but I'm curious what the group thinks about this perpetual problem in my country, and if other places are struggling with establishing a sense of place in their cities. Would love to hear any thoughts.

I really like this video, it explains the suburban sprawl effects in very simple words, and in a funny way.
This happens here in Venezuela too, with the same negative effects on the city and people...
(sorry for my english!)
Maria, your english is quite good actually :). I also like his humorous approach and the way he makes his point. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
AWESOME! I dont think he's "eccentric" at all. but i must say we in developing worlds are steering towards these "fuck it" kinda building blocks at rampant speeds. It is scary because no one seems to care as there is money to be made as long as they build whatever they want to build. the key lies with decision makers and policy makers. If they care the city will not commit to situations such as these. If designers know they would not get permission or the client will not agree to these kind of atrocities the architects wont provide them with it. And most of the times institutions/agencies of development do not care about one persons analysis until it becomes a movement or organization in it self that fights people in power or creates some kind of political noise. And ironically in time this movement/organization would become dormant as the leaders would either tire or age or hand over reigns to non believing managers. It is a vicious cycle of complicated multiplicities of economics and social obligations.

I have not watched the video but Amit, i totally agree with what you said about developing countries, its just like you live in mine. however, the designers and architects also have to do their own side of the job by caring even if the policy makers don't, after all, we all ventured into architecture because we want to solve our countrys' and universal environmental and shelter problems, because we care for our country and universe. designers need to stop compromising standards once they are established in the codes for whosoever the client is.

I think that must necessarily be the integration of natural cluster in the urban space, envaronmental resource affects the good climate in the society and environment.

Ripple space and multi-layered architecture to eliminate the monotony a depression.

Vulgar speech - it ugly. )))
