"Alicia Griffin's sculptures are not easy to define. they are a blend of art, design and architecture, and successfully manage to establish a dialogue between these creative disciplines without being obvious or intimidating. They're slick, minimal and elegant but very spiritual too-a direct consequence of the energy and dedication their author puts into them. Their spaces adeal with the space in a fashion not too dissimilar from the great modernist architecture. They build new shapes and forms, challenging geometry while highlighting the quality of the materials they are made from. The resulting structure embraces two opposite characteristics that nevertheless they seem to incorporate at once-fragility and power.
The compositional process clearly plays a key role in Griffin's art but it's the actual realization of her pieces the part of the process that the artist seems to enjoy the most. Acrylic and white foamboard are assembled to create dynamic intersections that emanate a deep sense of history while trundling out an intact passion and curiosity for everything new. This tantalizint combination is the most relevant contributing factor to why it's difficult to give these sculptures a precise temporal location. They have a classic flavour and yet have something never seen before. The pursuit of beauty after all is a timeless value. Griffin's sculptures are a little monumnent to that."
