Born in 1945 in Elvas, Alentejo, Portugal, childhood there and in the Azores, adolescence at Marista boarding school in Lisbon, graduates in Architecture at Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa in 1970. Post-Grad. in Japan on Wood Architecture 1970-1973 at Kyushu University.. In 1972 starts ceramics at various studios in Fukuoka. Projects in Architecture and Natural Sculpture 1973-1975 in Brazil. Founder of the Cunha ceramics group in 1975, builds with the Ukeseki couple and Cordeiro brothers the first community Noborigama kiln there. Works in Cunha on ceramics and architecture till 1987. Founder and Chair of Lisbon Ar.Co's Ceramics Dept. 1987-1990. Fellow of Japan Foundation at Kanazawa Arts and Crafts University in 1990-1991. Fellow of Kanazawa City at Utatsuyama Traditional Arts Institute 1991-1994. Design Lecturer and Chair of Foundation Dept. at KIDI Parsons Japan, 1993-2002. 2002-2010 Work at Atelier do Antigo Matadouro in ceramics, architecture and design. 2009-2010 President of the board of ICCC Instituto Cultural da Cerâmica de Cunha.
