Any tips on how to approach architects for work?

what music inspires an architect?

I have recently read that inspiration is captured through all senses, and that music can open a mind to imaginative expresionism. My inspirational music is an intense Classical Bach or Salieri to an…Continue

Hi Paul

What level are you at? (Part I or Part II)

The market is very tough and doesn’t seem to recover fast enough. There is some work in London area but with severe competition.

Have you considered working abroad until market recovers? If yes, then you may look for opportunities in Middle East or Far East. There are many British companies that operate in these areas and you may contact them and show interest. However, all vacancies at this point of time whether UK or abroad require some office based work experience. For Middle East employers do seek experience on large scale projects, whether housing or commercial.

As an alternative, if you are confident that you can find clients on your own with your personal contacts; you can also consider working as a self-employed or as sole trader.

Small clients can be:
1. An house owner who is interested in doing restoration or house extension or built an entire new house
2. Shop owner interested in doing interiors or space planning etc.
3. Site measured survey

Such small work is reasonably easy to find.

If case you manage to find clients and feel that you lack experience or if you think you can build a team of people like yourself who are capable of finding small/big clients. Please contact me and we can work things out.

I wouldn’t loose hope.
Have a nice day.

Hey thanks! Thank you very much. I still need to work on updating the website, especialy the flickr, write about each and every project in portuguese and english, but if my education and experience are correct, the images can pretty much talk by themselves :)

I love the Biennial project, it's one of my favorites for school.
Thank you again.

It's fine, I always have people talking in spanish with me when I say I from Brazil, I'm already used to it, if I can understand, I'm ok with that.
wow 8 years? That's definitely a lot, if you really enjoy doing it, that's your way to go after you qualify. I don't know if I could do that, being my own boss or someone else's boss is not something I know how to do..

Please, let me know if you see anything wrong on my website, the didn't send the english version to anyone correct for me yet, so please do if you notice anything wrong. and if you can tell me what you like most in there, It's something kinda new, I started a while ago, never finish... I even have new pictures of two of those building built already and didn't post.

Thanks Paul, but it's just that I can't see myself working on a regular firm, I wouldn't survive. I don't know what else I could do...
I guess it was right, but it was spanish, not portuguese "boa sorte para o futuro", it's very close, but not the same.

Dear blog......

An interesting week this week, rushing kids to parties half dressed clasping a copy of the AJ http://info.architectsjournal.co.uk/ to try to keep myself from the rat race that is the terror of 'school mum' chit chat.. late night scuffling through pages of building maintenance books and BRE booklets to hit the first of many deadlines of assignment dates.

Not sure if this course is… Continue

Oppenheim, a new age legend....

Posted on April 19, 2010 at 5:10pm 0 Comments

I have recently had the pleasure to study Oppenheim for a Uni project and have become a huge fan of his designs.

In particular, the breath taking Marina and beach tower. This building is a perfect tribute to dubi's excentricity.

His excitement over forms and details is nothing short of inspiring. Architects who are not afraid to push boundries and constraints are the…
