Bailly School Complex

Stadshaard Power Station



That's right, this delftware tile-clad structure is an industrial power plant. It's located in a prominent spot in the city of Enschede in the Netherlands, where a large "neutral" building with a 40-meter high chimney just wouldn't fit. Stadshaard literally means the "city hearth," and is tiled in a modern rendition of the delftware tiles that line Holland’s traditional open hearths.
