On the 8.33 acre site of Osaka's old baseball stadium sits
Namba Parks.
Designed for Nankai Electric Railway by the
Jerde Partnership, the project is a welcome green oasis in a stark urban environment. The park entices visitors with groves of trees, streams, lawns, rocks, ponds, terraces, cliffs and waterfalls. These are incorporated with a 30-story tower, and a gradually ascending lifestyle commercial center that is topped with the park. Beneath the park a man-made canyon carves through sites for retail, entertainment, and dining. The final tally for the project is 2.2 acres of open space, over 1,200 parking spaces, 25,000 square meters of common space, 2,700 square meters of cultural space, 38,000 square meters of residential space, 60,000 square meters of office space and 115,000 square meters of retail and entertainment space.
