A new milestone towards greener and sustainable living has been achieved in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It's an innovative off-grid housing development. The Phi Suea House is powered fully by a solar-hydrogen system that is world's premier for energy storage of its size. That solar-powered hydrogen storage system is capable of providing 24-hour, year-round access to clean energy, even when the weather is bad.

The house has aerate concrete walls, natural ventilation, smart ceiling fans, double-glazed windows, and VRF air conditioning units as backup. This smart, energy-efficient design helps cut down the energy demand, because it reduces its dependence on air conditioning. Moreover, there are utilities that collect the rainwater and reuse it as irrigation. A friend of mine, who is working in a house cleaning company in Atlanta GA, says also that because of the great isolation, the home will not attract dust as well.

This 100% self-sustaining gorgeous house comprises a variety of buildings, such as a workshop, guesthouses, a big fishpond waterfall and a 400-square-meter swimming pool that is equipped with an electrical well pump. Each structure has its own solar panels. All the electricity is put into a central energy storage system that collects and distributes the electricity based on demand. This system provides an average daily power of 26.8kWh, Besides, 86kW of photovoltaics are included, so the house produces monthly more than 6,000kWh.

The interesting fact is that the excess solar energy produced during the whole day is used to power anion exchange membrane electrolysers that split water into its integral elements. During that process, the hydrogen gas is stored in tanks, whereas the oxygen is released into the air. Likewise, fuel cells convert hydrogen back into electricity at night.

The hydrogen powered batteries have a lot more advantages than the ordinary ones. They are characterized with zero unwanted byproducts, larger storage, and a longer storage life. In cases of unforeseen accidents, architects have equipped the house with two 2,000-Ah, 48V lead-acid battery banks that will serve as a buffer and backup.

This type of houses are the better ones. They will give the opportunity to live in a better world and to not pollute the planet. It will help also have the lowest ecological footprint possible.
