BIG) is close to completion in Southern Orestad on the edge of the Copenhagen Canal. The 60,000 square meter structure consists of 475 residences of varied sizes, designed to fit the residence needs of almost anyone at almost any stage of life. The lower levels house office and retail space. Where the building's planes cross, a 9 meter wide passage connects the two surrounding city spaces - the park area to the west and the channel area to the east. The internal spaces created by the building's two "loops" are 500 square meters of communal facilities. However, my favorite feature of
8 House is the ability to bike from street level all the way to the ten story-high-roof. Orestad, here I come!
