AME-LOT is a student housing proposal covered in a skin of recycled wooden pallets. To create the building, Paris-based Stephane Malka Architecture claims that no existing building would be destroyed, and no pollution would be generated. The repurposed pallets are held using horizontal hinges that would allow them to contract upward to let in natural light, according to the desires of the tenants. The building’s façade, then, would consist of varied and constantly changing geometries based on usage. This simple reappropriation of materials wouldn’t require additional processing, but instead would cost little in terms of pollution and production.
