Henning Larsen Architects have won the competition for the Batumi Aquarium located in Batumi, Republic of Georgia. The elegant form of the architecture was derived from the pebbles found abundantly on Batumi Beach that are smoothed over time by the ocean waves. It has a very real, albeit obvious, reference to its geographical context.

That's an interesting point Heather. I think many people assume that because it's a simple idea, it must therefore be easy to produce. Good design never comes easy, and is often more complex than at first blush.

Where does all art work originate from? For those who say, "Its just pebbles." I would like to say, "Who can design something so beautiful as a pebble or a blade of grass? Their form is their function and visa versa..........and these buildings organize themselves into a relationship that is inherently part of the solidity of the rocks but house the liquidity of water. Perfect combniation.
