Typically, seaside promenades are designed as a transit area parallel to the coast, and to protect existing structures from being damaged by the waves. The Benidrom West Beach Promenade in Spain, designed by the
Office of Architecture in Barcelona and completed in 2009, aims to create a beautiful, organic destination with its own lifestyle. The lines of the
Promenade echo the lines of the surrounding cliffs and waves, and honeycombed surfaces create deliberate areas of light and shadow. Constructed entirely of white concrete, including the benches and other pedestrian "furniture," the Promenade is finished with a rainbow of different colored tiles.
