On the hillside of the Dolomites in Italy, at the edge of a residential area, Dolomitenblick is a unique structure that hosts six holiday homes. Designed by Plasma Studio, the volume grows out of the surrounding topography, with balustrades that develop out of the hillside, wrap around the building, and disappear back into the ground. A pronounced central incision marks the main circulation area. Each apartment has its own covered south-facing terrace with a view of the mountainside. Constructed of larch wood and pre-oxidized copper, Dolomitenblick respects the color palette of the nearby homes. The roof conforms to the local planning regulation requiring a pitched roof, yet deforms and plays with it.
