The Dome House by McBride Charles Ryan functions as a “garden home” in a conservative Melbourne suburb. However, there is nothing conservative about the appearance of this exquisite home.
I’ve blogged about dome houses before, and while aesthetics and architectural principles were taken into account with their construction, Ryan’s Dome House takes it to a new level.
The architecture firm began with the concept of a copper sphere, buried it in the ground, and then eroded away sections, leaving an undone jigsaw puzzle. That jigsaw puzzle feel is continued throughout the interior spaces and decor. And the resulting exterior space has an intimate and distinctive relationship with the home’s garden.
