This soaring design for a night club and hotel by eastern European firm Urbanplunger was awarded 3rd prize in the international competition for a site in Hong Kong, China. Given the extremely compact urban panning that already exists on the site, Urbanplunger used the idea of “pendant architecture,” by hanging the hotel and night club above the ground. This allowed the ground beneath it to be opened up as recreational green space within the tightly-knit city. Also, drawing upon the sensuality suggested by the night club, the outer layers of the building concept were “stripped” down (hence the design concept’s name, “Let Me See You Stripped”), becoming airplane-like wings on top of neighboring buildings that support the weight of the hanging structure.
