The Friend House is an eco-hotel in the forest by the river bank, 30 kilometers from Dnepropertrovsk in the Ukraine. The architecture and interior design are both the work of local firm Ryntovt Design. Ryntovt analyzed the energy and flow of the 1,750-square-meter site, and decided on minimally destructive construction materials of clay, reed, and wood. The result is architecture that reflects and harmonizes with its natural surroundings. Distinctive round rooms are formed of clay cobwork perforated with clusters of small round windows, a theme that is repeated throughout the hotel. The Friend Hotel also boats its own apple orchard, motivated by a local legend that says farmers should invite guests to their orchards at least twice a year, at blossom time and harvest.
