This design for the Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the Maldives was created by Norway based Narud Stokke Wiig Architects and UK based Haptic Architects. The aim of the airport is to be both functional and efficient while still preserving the beautiful pale coastline of the island. In order to display the unspoiled beauty of the island, the terminal is located in the lagoon, and the runway and taxiway are located at the far north and east of the island. This allows the apron areas and other airport functions to be located well inside the vegetation line.

The project has been shortlisted in the Future Projects category for the World Architecture Festival Awards.
