House Folded is a modestly sized 100-square-meter residence in Osaka, Japan, built for a couple and their cats.
Japanese architecture firm Alphaville aimed to create a “structurally rational but spatially heterogeneous house,” while avoiding the monotony of a series of rectangular rooms. They did so with the use of 3D-CAD, and the process of trial and error. The result is a home with a parallelogram footprint, and split levels that spiral upward through the structure. A central interior wall slopes and bends, and a three-story gash-like window welcomes natural light into the whole house.
