House KLR was built in Cologne, Germany as a two-unit townhouse. The modest plot was required by law to have 3 meters between the ground floor and the property line, and 4.5 meters between the second floor and the same line. The result by German firm archequipe was a playfully sculptural structure that allowed the construction of a sufficiently spacious roof terrace. Smaller windows and a plastered facade were incorporated to correspond to the neighboring housing. The main apartment extends over the lower three levels, with the entrance at the middles level. The garden area is positioned below street level, with the living and dining room on the same level, allowing the garden to be easily used for dining during warm months. The in-law apartment is structured as a maisonette, reaching from the second floor to the attic.
