If We Didn't Have Buildings, We'd Still Have Architecture

I remember a professor of mine said once that "If we didn't have buildings, we'd still have Architecture!" I was much too young then to understand the breadth and gravity of her comment, but I have since reflected on it and try to envision a world with no buildings, but beautiful architecture. This project by Eero Lunden Studio embodies the essence of that world. This concept, in my mind, doesn't really solve any utilitarian problem, at least not explicitly. Instead it carves, it sculpts, it plays, it inhabits a more spiritual plane. Ultimately it exists for itself, not for some simple or base human need. I try to remember ideas like this. It's hard to sit through meetings that have no more purpose than to fight over an endless list of clash detections or the monotony of "he said, she said" debates of liability; that's not why we're architects. We became architects to enrich ourselves and others. A building is one of infinite ways that this can be accomplished. Enjoy.
