Photos were recently released of Coop Himmelb(l)au’s Martin Luther Church in Hainburg, Austria.  Isn’t it just stunning?

Its complex roof landscape gives variety to the location, while symbolically conveying a sense of spirituality.  The sculptural bell tower reaches yearningly toward heaven, and three skylights are inserted into the roof’s intricate design.  Where the church meets the main road, a folded glass façade invites visitors to enter, while a free-standing wooden wall just interior to the glass creates a feeling of intimacy.  Through the prayer hall at the entrance are the glass-roofed children’s zone and baptistery, and beyond those lies the community hall.  Also included are a sacristy, pastor’s office, kitchen, other service areas, and access to the community garden.
