In the heart of Damascus in Syria will stand the Massar Children's Discovery Centre by Henning Larsen Architects. Inspired by the Damask rose, the center will include education, exhibition, library and administrative space. The project suggests a shell structure which will allow for playful beams of light to bounce through to the interior - reminiscent of light filtering between rose petals. In the center of the rose is a large common space wreathed by a series of stairs, ramps, and balconies. Administrative and exhibition areas are folded into the peripheral petals.
