Mercabarna Flor is Barcelona’s 15,000 square-meter flower market. The building by Willy Muller Architects is brightened by sections of brightly colored pleats, and has an angular roof structure. The interior houses three main sections: one with cold storage chambers for cut flowers, one for plants, and one for accessories. The plant area has a special roof that maintains the correct amount of natural lighting, and radiant-heat flooring that prevents damage from sudden temperature changes. Mercabarna Flor stands on a 44,000 square-meter site, with 450-vehicle parking and 240 linear meters of loading/unloading bays.
