NL Architects have won the competition to
design an outdoor cultural stage on the Haparandadam on the banks of the IJ River in Amsterdam. NL Architects say that the Port of Amsterdam is in a perpetual process of transformation, and the challenge of the project was to host multiple functions in a single spatial given. The
“Multi Mill” Outdoor Cultural Stage is designed for use as a live theater, movie cinema, and stage for a fashion show. To achieve this, three specifically-shaped wings are connected to a central revolving platform. In the immediate vicinity will be a multi-purpose parking slab and an elevated off-shore restaurant. NL Architects hopes that with the cultural stage's flexible design that other uses will be discovered.
