Nowhere But Sajima is a vacation home located about an hour from Tokyo, near Mt. Fuji.  The home sits next to the ocean, with a view of the lush verdant island of Enoshima.  However, this same home is also surrounded by condominiums and shoved up to a street bustling with heavy traffic.  Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects devised a solution that would maximize the beauty of the location while minimizing its noise.  The interior space is formed by a collection of tunnel-like spaces that open wide to the serenity of the ocean.  Each window-aperture is unique, framing a different image of the ocean.  It focuses the experience of the space on the picturesque tranquility of the water and gives each space its own character.
