The Sea Tree is an elegant piece of sustainable architecture that is deliberately not accessible to humans.  The design by Waterstudio.NL will serve as a habitat for the local native plants and animals, improving living conditions for nearby mankind in the process.

Each sea tree will be moored offshore to the seabed via cable system, and won’t have to fight for expensive green space in dense urban areas.  The underwater portion of each sea tree will also provide a habitat for small water creatures and – when climate allows – for artificial coral reefs.  The height and depth of each sea tree is determined by its location, and will be built by offshore technology quite similar to that used for oil storage towers.  It is hoped that oil companies will show their concern for the local living environment by donating a sea tree to a given city.
