Tanglewood House

Located near the top of a hill, the small Tanglewood House commands the verdant landscape.  Unlike other homes in surrounding Berkshire Hills, it is covered in a skin of industrial materials, with commercial glazing and corrugated anodized aluminum siding.  It is framed as a steel truss, with concrete and steel-deck roof and floor structure.  At the end of a 45 foot cantilever, the living area hovers 14 feet above the ground, giving spectacular views. 

Tanglewood House was built by Warren R. Schwartz of Schwartz/Silver Architects and was inspired by a dream he had after a visit to the Grand Canyon.  It replaces an existing home, and serves as a seasonal residence for his wife, who is a violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
