Designed by Randall Stout Architects, the Art Gallery of Alberta sits in downtown Edmonton, Alberta on Sir Winston Churchill Square.  The original museum was an undersized 1960s brutalist concrete structure.  By contrast, the new gallery is bold and dynamic, with a stainless steel surface that moves continuously through both the interior and exterior spaces.  Transparent glazing and reflective metal expose the activities within, and reflect Edmonton's dramatic weather patterns, allowing the building to transform with its surroundings.  It totals 84,000 square feet, which includes a great hall, multi-purpose theater, member's lounge, cafe, museum store, and outdoor sculptural terrace.
