This proposal by ACME for the UN Memorial in South Korea was awarded 3rd prize, and so will remain unbuilt, but it is still a stunning piece of architecture.

The building would be the focal point of the UN Peace Park, which has been created to increase the number of tourist in the city of Chungju, the birthplace of Ban Ki-moon, the current UN Secretary General.  The 9,000 square-meter memorial was designed to include a 1,500 seating UN assembly hall, two conference halls, exhibition space, office space, restaurants, and a theater.  The architecture’s cells represent the collective nature of the United Nations, and are inhabited by the building’s different functions.
