The first of three volumes produced for an architecture studio winter semester 2008 conducted by Mary-Ann Ray and Robert E. Mangurian based on the concept of the N.M.L. (New Metropolitan Library) - architecture of/and/in/against the library. This studio used film as the medium of developing and idea for the library. We recreated four films that incorporated various aspects of libraries in them. These four films were Soylent Green, Citizen Cane, Fahrenheit 451 and Hero. This exercise was used in order to generate a thesis for our library proposal that would eventually take place in Volume 3. Volume 2 will not be available via youtube, but it was a book we assembled to further establish our framework for designing the library incorporating three types of spaces: pre-book (Fahrenheit 451), book (Hero) and post-book(Soylent Green/Citizen Cane).
